After almost 5 months of dealing with this pandemic, we knew we needed a vacation. We had talked about going to South Dakota for awhile but with summers normally filled with trips to the cabin and Canada, it never seemed like the right time. But with the border still closed, we decided let's to it! We had the absolute BEST time and it was SO worth it. The black hills were gorgeous and it just felt great to getaway from it all for a bit. We are already planning our trip back next year :)
Some of our favorite memories!
⁃ Forgetting my meds, ugh! Thank goodness for emergency prescription refills and Walgreens!⁃ Watching the girls play in the pool and just be kids after months of Covid quarantine measures⁃ Becca dipping her toes in the pool and finally going down the step⁃ Becca seeing them badlands, wow, mommy look?⁃ Becca hiking and climbing everywhere in the badlands⁃ Brinley deathly afraid of rattlesnakes in the badlands⁃ Buffalo taking a dust bath right by our car⁃ Uno slaughter! Go momma!⁃ Becca thinking the knots in the woods are bugs and not sleeping at all, ha!⁃ Warm pine smell at Mt Rushmore⁃ Winding road up and down a mountain with beautiful framed views of Mt Rushmore through the one lane tunnels on 16A⁃ Driving through a herd of buffalo. Amazing!!!
⁃ “I want that chicken” boo boo chicken
Fun already starts at the rest stop!
Our first stop was the badlands and it was awesome but boy was it hot! We made it on a little hike but then daddy and Brinley walked ahead on the way back and Becca started having a meltdown. Mommy had to carry her back to the car and for a minute there I didn't think I was going to make it, ha!
Becca had no fear. Brinley saw the "beware of rattlesnakes" sign and was terrified!
Me and my girls, love!
We made it!
Our first buffalo siting! We thought it was just the coolest and had no idea what was to come!
Our campground
Our home for the next 5 days
Our first Mt Rushmore siting!
Our BFFs, the Redman's decided to go to South Dakota at the same time and we got to hang out throughout the week. It was awesome!
Becca was quite the little climber. She definitely has no fear!
So funny watching Daddy trying to negotiate with her to come down
Bump pic at 26 weeks with Mt Rushmore in the background, how cool is that!
She did it! Brinley conquered her fear and did the giant zip line all by herself! We were so proud of her!
We did a drive at dusk through the park and saw a few buffalo, little did we know what was awaiting us just around the bend.
We found the herd!!!
It was so incredible. Like nothing we've ever seen or experienced. What an incredible memory!
They were right by the cars!
Quick stop at a beautiful outdoor church and lodge
Fun at the beach!
How mama stayed cool!
Everyone LOVED horseback riding. A memory for sure!
Not even 3 and on a giant horse. She LOVED it! Wasn't afraid at all and went 4 times!
So proud of Brinley, she remembered everything from horse camp and did amazing!
We hiked to the top of the mountain, I can't believe I actually made it! And we watched the fireworks over Mt Rushmore as a storm rolled in. It was really cool! AND the best part was their was zero mosquitoes!
Happy 4th of July!
BFFs and their buffaloes!
The crazy kiddos!
