So we've been having trouble with Brinley's adenoids ever since Labor Day weekend this fall. She basically had a chronic infection from the end of August through early Dec. We then cleared it up with a double dose of their last resort antibiotics and then she was better for a few weeks before it came back again. The poor kiddo also had a really lose cough and probably chronic sore throat from everything draining from her nose.
We went to the pediatrician countless times and then the ENT twice before finally deciding to pull the trigger for surgery on April 2. Once we knew that surgery was the recommended option, we wanted to get it taken care of as soon as possible and definitely so that she's be fully recovered before our Disney trip in early May.
Overall she did really great and Children's Hospital in St. Paul did an awesome job helping all of us feel comfortable. She watched Frozen in her room, got to see a puppy while she was waiting and loved working with the role playing person before she went in. I held her while they put the mask on her to go to sleep and that was really really hard as she looked so lost and scared. I was telling her it was okay and to look at Mommy and her eyes met mine for a split second before she fell asleep. I hope she knew in that moment that she was okay and I was there.
After surgery she was cranky, groggy and really wanted her IV to come out, but she did a great job eating and drinking (she ate a very messy popsicle, jello and three cups of apple juice) and so we got to go home that day. There was a possibility that we'd have to stay overnight since she was under two but that wasn't necessary.
Matt went into work that afternoon and I took her home. I was exhausted from staying up late worrying and getting up way too early and was really hoping for low-key cuddles on the couch. But Brinley had different plans and was running around like nothing ever happened. She was also ravenously hungry and ate pudding, a granola bar, crackers, a cupcake, piece of chocolate, more apple juice and basically anything she wanted since Mommy was feeling bad about putting her through that. I swear though between all of that food and the IV fluid she gained like 3-4 pounds in one day. It's since all come off and she's back to normal.
She did great all through Thursday and Friday but then Friday night started to get bad. She stopped wanting to take her pain meds and was up a lot overnight both weekend nights in pain. It was so heart-breaking as she's cry "no, no, no, owie, owie" and then ask us to "kiss it." We had to force her to take her meds but we knew it would help her feel better. Our Easter was pretty low-key and we went over to Matt's parents house for a bit, and then kept her home from daycare on Monday just to be sure. Since then though she's returned completely back to her normal self and Mommy and Daddy are really thankful that she's once again sleeping through the night. Praise the Lord!
